On August 5, 2022, in Dallas, Texas, during the Conservative Political Action Conference, Vivek Ramaswamy gave a speech.
The billionaire biotech entrepreneur and self-proclaimed intellectual godfather of the anti-woke movement, Vivek Ramaswamy, announced his candidature for presidency on Tuesday.
In a video announcing his run for office, he said, “We are in the throes of a national identity crisis,” and he went on to suggest that the current political climate amounted to “psychological enslavement.”
With an American flag draped behind him and a flag pin on his lapel, Ramaswamy addressed the camera and positioned his campaign as a wide counteroffensive to the “woke left,” which he characterised as a threat to free speech, the free exchange of ideas, and American exceptionalism.
As of 2024, Ramaswamy is the third major politician to officially enter the race for president. Although he indicated in FEC filings that he was a Republican candidate, he avoided mentioning the party in his announcement video, suggesting he wants to present himself as an outsider to the status quo.
Already, he has done barnstorming in early nominating states like Iowa, where he has been met with enthusiasm despite the fact that several of the state’s political elite have admitted they are unfamiliar with the platform on which he is running.
Ramaswamy is well-known for his appearances on Fox News and his New York Times best-selling book, although his fortune was made in biotech trading.
Ramaswamy’s admission into the race was met with the typical flare of opposition Democrats, notwithstanding the low likelihood of his gaining the nomination. The Democratic National Committee issued a statement not long after he gave an interview to Fox News to discuss his intention to run for office.
With “the contest for the MAGA base” becoming “messier and more congested by the day” as “Vivek Ramaswamy uses Tucker Carlson’s show to announce his campaign for president,” the article stated. We look forward to continue to make sure every American is aware of how extreme the MAGA agenda is by highlighting the fact that Republicans will adopt extremely extreme positions over the coming few months on issues ranging from outlawing abortion to eliminating Social Security and Medicare.
