Lodi Dynasty Rulers

 Lodhi Dynasty ruled Delhi from 1451 to 1526. It succeeded the Sayyid Dynasty. Many administrative reforms, army strengthening, expansion, and improvement of agriculture and people’s welfare started in India during the Lodi Dynasty.

Lodi Dynasty Rulers

  • Bahlul Lodi (1451 -1489 AD)
  • Sikandar Shahi (1489-1517 AD)
  • Ibrahim Lodi (1517-1526 AD)

Bahlul Khan Lodi (1451 -1489 AD)

  • Bahlul Khan Lodi established the Lodi Dynasty. 
  • The Lodi Dynasty brought the Sultanate Period to end. 
  • He was a knowledgeable statesman who was well aware of his limitations. 
  • To appease his nobility, he adopted a variety of methods. 
  • Bahlul Khan Lodi conquered Gwalior, Santhal, Sakit, and Mewat. 
  • Bahlul Khan Lodi never sat on the throne, preferring to sit on the carpet with his nobility to earn support and attention. 
  • He died in  1489.

Sikandar Shahi (1489-1517 A.D.)

  • Bahlul Lodi’s son was Sikandar Shahi
  • He ascended the throne and took the name, Sikandar Shah
  • He established a well-organized intelligence network. 
  • He developed agriculture and industry. 
  • He imposed many restrictions on  Hindus. 
  • Sikandar Shah was a fan of “Shehnai” music. 
  • During his reign, he composed the musical piece “Lahjati-Sikandar Shahi.” 
  • After his death, he was succeeded by Ibrahim Lodi, the last ruler of the Lodi Dynasty.

Babur and Ibrahim Lodi (1517-1526 A.D.)

  • First Batlle of Panippat

    Ibrahim Lodi succeeded the Sikandar Lodhi.

  • Ibrahim Lodi was obstinate and intolerant, neither of which are desirable attributes in a monarch. 
  • He murdered many Aristocrats brutally and also humiliated several nobles publicly.  
  • He was extremely abusive to his son Dilwar Khan Lodi.
  • Many nobles became against him and started to plot against him.
  • Babur, the ruler of Kabul, invaded India at the request of Daulat Khan, a strong lord from Punjab. 

Babur defeated Ibrahim Lodi in the first battle of Panipat in the year 1526 A.D and he founded the Mughal Empire.
